about LPH

Liverpool Pilates Hub offers a range of fitness classes found on any gym or fitness studio timetable. At LPH, however, every class we offer has the Pilates method at its core. From Classic Mat to Zen, Power Pilates to HIIT, every LPH class is led by Sophie, carefully designed with good technique and biomechanics in mind, and then executed in a safe and effective way to ensure all clients get the most out of their fitness pursuits.

Pilates is a form of exercise traditionally performed on a mat or with specialist Pilates equipment, yet Joseph Pilates, the method’s creator, intended Pilates to be at the core of all movement styles - sport, dance, running, weight lifting, circuit training, and even housework - to enhance and support other ways of moving our bodies. LPH does offer Classic Mat Pilates classes, but we’re also proud of our other Pilates fusion classes which mirror this approach.

The physical and mental health of our clients is paramount. At LPH we recognise that a focus on body image can have a negative impact on our mental health and wellbeing. So here at LPH we put an emphasis on the numbers going up rather than down. For example, increasing the length of time you can run for, the weight you can lift, and the number of repetitions you can perform, rather than the numbers on a weighing scale. This will, of course, effect how you look and feel, but we find this simple shift in mindset will lead to a more positive and empowering experience.

So, whether you are looking to begin your fitness journey, are a seasoned athlete in search of ‘the edge’ or looking for help in managing pain and long term discomfort, get involved!

MEET SOPHIE

Hi, my name is Sophie, I originally trained as a Dancer at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. On graduating in 2009 with a BA(hons) in Dance (Performing Arts) I went on to work with a variety of dance and physical theatre companies, whilst training part time for my fitness qualifications. As a freelance practitioner I have worked for a variety of gyms, health clubs, educational institutes and independent businesses including Fitness First, Virgin Active, Nuffield Health, Physio and Fitness and The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and Liverpool John Moores University. This work has taken me all over the country, however I am now permanently based in Liverpool. 

 

I am experienced in working with a broad range of clients from the everyday man and woman looking to improve their health and fitness to Olympic athletes to dancers training for their degrees and a professional career.

My expertise lie in Pilates, strength and conditioning and injury rehabilitation and prevention.

 

I have recently enjoyed exploring different ways of bringing exercise to everybody through online, virtual experiences, making it easier and more accessible than ever to get moving! 

I enjoy keeping up to date with the latest cutting edge health and fitness research, and I am continually adding to my experiences, skills and knowledge by attending lectures, courses and workshops.

 

I have a huge interest in biomechanics and anatomy and physiology. I often work alongside physiotherapist Deborah Edwards developing my knowledge. 

My goal is for you to leave one of my classes feeling like you have had a great workout and you have learnt something new about your body.

Fascia | The connective tissue that holds us together

I first learnt about fascia from a book called Anatomy Trains by Thomas Myers and it changed my approach to how I look at the body and movement. Fascia is a 3D connective tissue that is the glue that holds us together. Our organs, bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons and all held within this spider web of tissue. Today I’m going to talk to you about 5 lines of fascia, the Deep Front Line, the Superficial Back Line, the Lateral Line, the Arm Line and the Spiral Line and how learning about these lines can help you with injury rehab and prevention.
